The author also a USN Navy Officer, Mr. Sherbo, takes great patience to explain this event in Naval terms, explain sea duties, qualifications, and bring understanding of how this sea disaster occured. The meticulous attention to fact, over feeling, is shown in in precise detail and the many charts that are available in the hardcover edition. Any destroyerman will be able to see the bridge, aftersteering, the radar repeaters, the open bridge, the helm, the telegraph, darkness, the boiler room, the wardroom, the CIC, the captain's cabin, the port and starboard side, the moonlight on a still sea following about 15 minutes (0315-0330 June 3, 1969)of the time from collision to rescure. The intent seems to be, this must never happen again.

Unsinkable Sailors The fall and rise of the last crew of USS Frank E Evans eBook Paul Sherbo Reviews

A sad but true story. Very well told. Why are their names not on the Vietnam Wall ? Never Forgotten !
mistakes are a common occurance in life, please consult CIC mr, this didn't have to happen
Excellent book. I was in the Navy when this happened and we have been trying for years to get the 74 names on the wall. If you are a Navy man, you should read this.
Very good!! Didn't know my nephew was in cited in the book (Michael Peacock). Very scary time for our family!!
I was a young sailor aboard the USS James E. Kyes. The Kyes, Larson and the Evans made up DESRON 23. This is history that I was a part of. I was manning the rail aboard my ship at first light when we could clearly see what had happened to the Evans. I knew many of the sailors aboard the Evans. I think it is a crime to deny those 74 sailors a place on the wall. Not much to ask in exchange for their lives.
Good book if you like true stories that are obscure enough to not be remembered well from when it originally took place. Nice that someone has memorialized this tragedy in such a good way.
As a classmate of one of the sailors who died in the collision, I was very interested in the account presented by Paul Sherbo. The fact that as of this writing, the names of those who died are not etched in the Vietnam War Memorial in Washington, D.C. is a travesty that, hopefully, can be resolved before the 50th anniversary of the sinking of the Evans.
